Occupation:

Empire of Sands

Abilities (Level)

Kinetic Explosion (A)

  • Furnace cannot create or control fire. He generates concussive force through molecular acceleration in specific points. Can cause explosions on touch or within line of sight within 50 meters. Ranges from precision blasts to demolitions capable of collapsing buildings.

Thermal Battery (B)

  • Furnace can absorb external heat sources, fire, sunlight, and friction, to recharge without resting. In desert environments, effectively inexhaustible and highly explosive.

Heat Transfer (B)

  • Furnace can channel stored heat through touch, causing burns, fever, or targeted organ damage. Can also warm others, a skill he rarely uses.

Empire Wrestling (N/A)

  • Trained in traditional Empire grappling, specializes in holds that crush and heat simultaneously.
Weaknesses

Cold

  • Freezing temperatures drain his reserves rapidly. Prolonged exposure to ice or snow renders him powerless and hypothermic despite his natural heat.

Overheating

  • Storing too much heat causes his thermal tattoos to glow visibly, revealing his position, and can trigger involuntary explosions. He must vent regularly or risk detonation.

Traditionalism

  • Deeply indoctrinated in Empire conservatism, honor, family, and rigid roles. His inability to process unexpected experiences, like attraction to other guys, causes him to react with anger.

Appearance

Hamza is ruggedly handsome in a way that commands attention in person. Heavy-browed, strong-jawed, thick-necked. He has the face of a man who has survived destruction. His nose has been broken twice and set imperfectly, giving character to otherwise heavy features. His hair is military short, his beard trimmed to Empire regulation.

He stands well over six feet and carries the kind of mass that makes doorways look smaller. Thick slabs of muscle sit across his chest and shoulders, forearms roped and corded from grappling.

His hands tell his whole history. Broad, scarred across the knuckles, a burn mark healed pale on one palm where an early detonation got away from him.

As Furnace, his costume consists of cracked, burnt-rust leather that wraps his torso in overlapping panels, thick enough to survive his detonations and scorched dark in places where it hasn’t quite managed to. His forearms are bound in wrapped leather straps, pit-fighter style. No sleeves, just his bare shoulders and the coarse dark hair across his chest left fully exposed.

He also wears wide-legged trousers in deep sand-brown canvas, fitted through the hips, tucked into bronze greaves that protect his shins from impact recoil.

Personality

Hamza believes in directness above all else, viewing social maneuvering as weakness and deception as cowardice. He says what he means in words and in explosions; his communication style is as blunt as his powers.

This straightforwardness stems from absolute physical confidence, a body that has never failed him in wrestling rings or battlefields, muscles that respond to will without hesitation. He respects others’ strength, dismissing intellectual complexity unless it yields tangible results.

Loyalty, once given, is absolute and unquestioning, making him reliable. He despises pretense and those who use beauty or words as weapons, trusting only what he can feel impact against his own body.

He carries shame about his own literacy, still developing, still slower than he wants, and it embarrasses him more than any scar has. He prefers to understand a situation fully before he acts on it.

Origins

Hamza was born in the cooking tents, his mother a baker of flatbread, his father a sand cook who prepared meals for the Champions. The boy grew up inhaling spice smoke and watching powerful men eat, knowing he would never be one of them by blood.

At twelve, he manifested his powers during a wrestling match with the Champion’s son, accidentally shattering the boy’s knee with a concussive blast triggered by rage and contact. The Empire saw potential, where his parents saw danger, recruiting him into training rather than imprisoning him.

For three years, he fought in underground wrestling pits, defeating opponents through brutal efficiency rather than technical grace, earning coin and scars in equal measure. The matches were bloody and unregulated, winners crippling losers for life, and Hamza learned that mercy was a luxury of the protected while he needed victory to survive.

His raw power drew attention from the Sand Alliance themselves, and at sixteen, he entered the official promotion tournaments, fighting seven consecutive ranked matches over three days until his ribs cracked and his hands bled and he stood alone as the victor.

He became Second Champion around the same time Omar became First. He has never once let himself ask, out loud or otherwise, whether those two things happening back to back was a coincidence. Some part of him suspects it wasn’t. A larger part of him has decided that’s a fight he doesn’t have the right weapon for, and Hamza has never been a man who throws a punch he isn’t sure will land.
